An Inconvenient Truth

Me

I just saw Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth.  At least every american should watch it.  It's about the causes, rise, and effects of global warming.  The overall situation is this:  diverse research shows that in fifty years global temperatures will have risen well into catastrophic levels.  Details are explained in the film, as well as a variety of the affects already had today, by global warming.

My brothers and sisters in the Lord Jesus Christ, hear my plea.  This philosophy of, "It doesn't matter what happens to the earth because God will renew it," is totally inconsistent with righteous living, as prescribed by our faith.  Our souls will be morally perfected at Kingdom Come, but we do not take that as a que to take it easy until then.  No, we die to every day in the hopes of achieving right standing with God.  We "hope in all things, believe in all things" and so give the energy required to attempt to "be holy even as [God is] holy," despite our history of wearying moral failure.

True, the earth is not as important as our souls.  It is more important that people be reconciled to God and to each other than it is that the earth be maintained till the end of the age.  But he who is trustworthy with a little will be trusted with more.  Let the earth be a "little" thing that you cherish and not abuse.

A final note... God has clearly left much of history in the hands of men.  Much of justice is for now left in the hands of men, even though the inward justice of the soul is never lost from God's direct reign.  Though He will redeem the world with outward justice in the end, it is not yet the end.  And we people have much responsibility.  This is all to imply this:  could it be that God is allowing us, to some extent, set the time of the end of this age?  Could it be that we ruin our planet before God wants history to conclude?  Every sin has its consequence.  The earth may not be a person, but it was made by a person, and it loves us all in its own way by giving us a home.  Do not trespass the earth.

Please,
Jake
